The substance abuse ministry Upward Bound Ministries Inc. was founded in 1998 in Berea, KY. It operated out of the Richmond Parks and Recreation Department from 1998 until 2003 until relocating to Church on the Rock 1049 Richmond Rd. Berea, KY. We are a non-profit, Christian, faith-based, drug addiction and substance abuse ministry with its 501 (c) 3 tax exemption certification from the Internal Revenue Service. Our organization is staffed with committed volunteer coordinators who are dedicated to our mission.of helping others with drug addiction find a better way of life through Jesus Christ. Our coordinators are volunteers who are abstinent from the use of tobacco, alcohol, or any type of drug that has the potential to bring them into addiction. We recommend that people with addiction, behavior, or relationship issues participate in our counseling sessions for a period of 6 months to 1 year. In addition, we provide the community with a drug education, prevention, awareness and spiritual enlighten TV telecast called “LIFELINE.”
Our Mission
... is to provide community based health education and prevention services through counseling and mentoring sessions to see drug addicts and alcoholics of any gender, race, religious affiliation, or economic background delivered from their life hindering addiction.
The core of our belief comes from Isaiah 61:1 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound."

First, I thank Jesus Christ for delivering me from the bondage of alcohol, marijuana, sin, and death over 18 years ago. My life has been completely transformed because I have been transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. Because of what Christ done for me, I told Him I would obey Him and go back and tell others who are in bondage, the Good News, that He will do for them what He done for me and many others before me. As we see the drugs addiction epidemic escalate in our community, and see the high risk of people losing their lives to the drugs as well as innocent people on our roads and highways, we must ask ourselves a question. What are doing to reduce this risk? I feel that a drug addicts mind must be challenged by something far greater than society’s rehabilitation systems and its judicial system. We know from our experiences in this field that the only thing that will affect a drug addict’s way of thinking is the Word of God. Therefore, I thank the Lord for giving me the vision and the will, to accomplish the fullness of the ministry. The vision is to improve the quality of life for drug addicts and their families whereby they can have LIFE eternally and life more abundantly. If you or a loved one is struggling with drug addiction or substance abuse please use our contact page and contact us for help.
